Ocean Conservation Administration — Annual Exhibition & Publication System
Ocean Conservation Administration · 2022–2025

A four-year collaboration with Taiwan's Ocean Conservation Administration, designing the visual identity and publication for the agency's annual "Local Ocean Conservation" initiative. Each year, approximately 65 community organizations contribute to marine conservation efforts across the country — we consolidated their collective outcomes into a structured annual report book and exhibition key visual, turning dense public-sector content into clear, approachable communication.

The "Local Ocean Conservation" initiative brings together around 65 organizations each year, spanning topics from sustainable fishing to marine waste reduction to coastal habitat preservation. Each edition of the annual report book needed to accommodate roughly 150 pages of content — covering different regions, different organizations, and different conservation approaches — while remaining navigable for readers who may not be subject-matter experts.
The second challenge was tonal: government publications carry expectations of formality and institutional credibility, but ocean conservation is a public-facing cause that needs warmth and accessibility to connect with a general audience. The visual system had to serve both registers without compromising either.
We structured each edition around thematic categories — sustainable fishing, marine waste reduction, coastal conservation, and others — giving readers a clear framework to navigate the work of 65 organizations without losing the specificity of individual efforts. A custom illustration system and considered page rhythm helped sustain reading momentum across 150 pages, balancing informational density with visual breathing room so the publication felt less like a compliance document and more like something worth picking up.
The visual language was calibrated to sit between institutional credibility and public warmth — formal enough to meet government publishing standards, approachable enough that a general audience would engage with it. This tonal balance carried across formats: from page layouts and illustrations in the report book to the exhibition key visual and on-site applications, maintaining a consistent identity between print and physical space.

Over four years, the collaboration produced three editions of the annual report book and two exhibition key visuals, giving the initiative a consistent visual framework that grew more refined with each cycle. The publication became the program's primary tool for communicating conservation impact — bridging the gap between institutional reporting and public engagement.
